Butterflies develop through metamorphosis, a Greek word meaning transformation or change in shape. Thus, in many cultures, the shape-changing butterfly is a symbol of transformation, transition, and resurrection associated with the soul.

My friend suggested shooting this assignment in the butterfly house at the Pacific Science Center. I have often used butterflies in artwork and couldn’t help seeing the analogy involving transformation. Like the butterfly in its cocoon, I feel movement within but have a fear of breaking through somehow and daring to fly. What will happen if my wings never get formed or remain invisible? This exposure was taken by a Nikon D80, ISO 400, 18-55 mm lens with blue gel.
